"Every Child Has A Gift Waiting To Be Discovered"

Somewhere Over The Rainbow
When it comes to Children with "Special Needs," this is definitely where my passion resides. In the past, I have worked with Children with Special Needs and speaking to their parents, it is very upsetting to see and hear their frustration. Sadly, these Children are many times the forgotten Children of our society. Personally, I took a major interest in starting to implement Music with these Children. I was told by many professionals that my ideas were not going to work, due to their limitations.
Well, I have been so blessed to see Miracles happen with these Children who were thought of not being able to either understand or learn anything of Music.
As I have always said...
"Every Child Has A Gift Waiting To Be Discovered".
Most importantly to remember, is that the Child is taught according to his/her strengths. Subject content and matter is introduced according to their level of understanding. Music therapy is also used if needed to help coordinate motor skills, cognitive functioning, emotional and affective development, behavior and social skills.
Many rhythmic patterns, are used to help introduce the Child to the World of Music and it grows from there. As the seed is planted, the parents discover their Children use what they learn in Music for other daily activities.
Because every Child is unique, a specialized lesson plan is prepared for the Child.
Due to many of the results with special needs children, I was a Guest Speaker at the Inland Valley Regional Center on a few occasions to discuss Music for these very special children and young adults.
(I was speaking at this venue 1 1/12 week before the Terrorist Attack).
Many of my students have been invited to play the piano for Christmas and other special events at Community Centers, Convalescent Homes, and Team Possibilities, from the Loma Linda Medical Center.
(A meeting with the parents is scheduled before any lesson takes place.)
